What flash do you recommend to use with the Canon Rebel XT?

I don’t have allot of money to spend…but I need to make the investment for a flash. I need help finding a good, reliable flash for not a lot of cash. It must be fully compatible with the Rebel XT with TTL. I have an old Canon Speedlight 540EZ that is not compatible, or reliable with Rebel XT…(anyone want to buy it? LOL). I just purchased an older Rebel XT and cannot upload the pictures using Vista. I have tried downloading the driver upgrade from the Canon website, but it still comes up with an error? Any ideas?
